Development Knowledge Networks are developed and designed basically to generate and disseminate knowledge among a network of practitioners and researchers. The network is a forum for sharing case studies, tools and methodologies, on-going research and publications. This is essentially to generate and develop innovation and disseminate best practices and ensure sustainable, effective social and economic development in the sector.

These partnerships promote joint action learning through action based research and dissemination of best practice in community-based microfinance.
The learning and dissemination is enhanced through the development of technologically-mediated knowledge networks enabling participants to interface with each other on one to one or many to many basis.
These activities are aimed to -
- Build cadre of leaders in MFIs and within communities
- Beyond technical skills, this becomes a forum for individuals and groups to renew their commitment to social justice and poverty alleviation
- Capacity building to make grassroots and people's organizations self-reliant
- Hand-holding and follow-up to help participants apply learning in the field
- Promoting organizations to be better able to support microfinance strategically and coherently
- Provide students and visitors with a systematic approach to understanding innovations in the field
- New practitioners and fresh graduates attracted to the sector given a new forum for learning and drawing on the skills
- Action learning partnerships, research and policy forums to challenge the sector to professionalize, share and compare learnings, benchmark and work towards policies that support microfinance and its crucial role in poverty alleviation
